Reliable impact projections – the key to successful management.
Worldwide, there is a huge increase in the demand for high-quality nature-based solutions (NBS) through land use projects to combat climate change.
Examples of such NBS land-use projects are: afforestation in degraded areas or implementing more sustainable agriculture practices with multiple activities (adding biochar to the soil, afforestation of tree lines, etc.). The challenge with all those projects is to obtain some certainty in advance about:
- The impact (amount of carbon stored, other positive effects like improving water holding capacity of soils, etc.),
- The environmental and financial risks that exist in the areas of a project,
- Costs & benefits of implementing such a project globally.
Digital tools can fasten the process of obtaining data, structuring data and, finally, creating the needed metrics. Those metrics allow one to make decisions based on well-founded arguments derived from data insights.
During the webinar, BioGrowth Development will answer some questions that often arise when stakeholders start new NBS land use projects or when they want to know more about the impact of existing NBS land use projects.
BioGrowth Development has developed tools that allow assessing the outcomes of existing projects in terms of:
- Total carbon storage in land-use systems
- Detailed carbon storage distribution over the project areas
- Exact contribution per plant species used
- Soil carbon storage
- Soil water-holding capacity improvement
The result is that developers of NBS land use projects can make sound decisions and de-risk project cases based on multi-criteria data analyses, before the project starts. The outcomes of those analyses may then increase the chances of obtaining funding for new projects and provide better metrics for communication strategies with donors or funders.
